Chapter Ten

#xa0;

“Friends? He wants to be friends? You’ve got to be kidding me,” Tiffany said with annoyance. “Please tell me you told him to shove it up his ass.”

Mackenzie released a heavy sigh. Gideon had only left about ten minutes before. There had been no more trick or treaters demanding candy and Molly looked beyond exhausted as she yawned. Friendship Friday was coming to an end a whole lot earlier than Mackenzie had planned.

“His daughter is precious and he seems like a really good dad,” Molly added then she covered her mouth as another yawn escaped her.

“He is.” Mackenzie couldn’t deny that. Gideon was a good father and he would’ve been an amazing dad to their baby. It was the whole fiancé part he’d fallen short on.

Tiffany rolled her eyes. “So what if he’s a fucking a saint for adopting that baby? He’s still an asshole. Let’s not forget that, ladies.”

“Tiff, don’t worry, I’m still going to date Ian. Gideon just wants to be friends now,” Mackenzie explained.

“For how long? Men can’t just be our friends, Mac—unless they’re gay. Then you can totally be besties with a dude, otherwise it’s just not possible,” Tiffany countered. “Last time I checked, Gideon wasn’t gay.”

Deep down, Mackenzie knew Tiffany was right. Wasn’t I just telling myself that only moments ago? That it isn’t possible for men and women to just be friends?

“I think it’s sweet that he wants you in his life,” Molly added with drooping eyes. “He still loves you, Mac. I could totally see it tonight.”

“You better not start rooting for him, Molly. I’ll kill you,” Tiffany threatened her with a wavering stare.

“Don’t worry about Gideon. I’m interested in Ian. I absolutely want to pursue that and see where it goes.”

“Good. Just please keep your distance from Gideon. I don’t entirely trust that he only wants to be your friend. In case you’ve already forgotten, he just fucked you silly last week,” Tiffany pointed out.

Molly erupted into laughter. “That’s right. Mac. That’s one helluva a friendship if I’ve ever heard of one.”

Mackenzie felt herself blush at the memory of their very hot encounter. “Would you two please stop?”

“See? Men and women can’t be buddies. It always comes down to sex,” Tiffany explained as though she were an expert on the subject.

“Do tell us, wise one,” Mackenzie teased.

“I know what I’m talking about,” Tiffany defended herself.

“I have no doubt that you do. I’m just saying that Gideon and I could be friends.”

“In a perfect world, maybe. We’ll play this your way and when shit spirals out of control, don’t be surprised when I’m saying, ‘I told ya so’, okay?”

Molly laughed. “Isn’t it usually Mac who is always telling you, ‘I told ya so’? How did your roles get switched?”

“Right?” Mackenzie laughed. “I was the one giving out all the sound advice and looking after you crazy chicks like a good mother hen. What in the hell happened?”

“Well, it’s our turn. We owe you,” Tiffany said as her voice began sounding watery with emotion.
